Radio Fala Mulher

Radio Fala Mulher (Women Speak) is a radio programme produced by CEMINA in Brazil since 1990. More recently the radio programme is also a website and the home of Cyberela, a project and network comprised of women and community leaders selected, trained and equipped to produce and exchange information with a gender perspective through community radio and the internet.

An article posted on telecentre.org explains how it works:

Specifically, radio content produced locally is shared with other community radio stations across Brazil, by uploading and downloading content via the project’s webpage . Individual radio stations can therefore use the material produced by other radio stations The local radio stations transmit music and selected programmes from the Network Cyberela database. The interactive website aims to spur knowledge sharing, in part through the profiles of women radio network stations. It also contains information and news on women’s issues, which are designed to be used as inspiration for developing new material and radio programmes. In order to be part of the Cyberela Network, a broadband internet connection and a computer with a size that enables editing of sound files are necessary. A number of the female communicators in the Cyberela Network have received desktop computers equipped with software for audio editing, and all were trained over a 10-day period in using the tools.
