Re: <amarc-1> Intro

** I am pleased that we have found kindred spirits in this forum. We must
work together to make sure that we evolve what I call the "modern community
infrastructure." In this construct, competent service organizations -
schools, libraries, community based organizations, churches, government,
corporations, and foundations, etc. -- must work together to leverage the
global information infrastructure to help people to help themselves. None of
us can do it alone. With the GII/NII we can provide just in time support to
all who might need it. Just as we gain from being here virtually, so too must
others who are not yet as fortunate.

** As the early adopters of this new medium, we shoulder the burden of helping
low-income and the least-informed to get connected and to build quality
content that leads to meaningful advancement in physical-space. This medium
is just a tool, but it is a most impressive and powerful tool. What we choose
to do at these crossroads, will have an impact on the next 50 years of access
and opportunity for our global family. The best of us must work to guarantee
that the rest of us are not regulated to the "have-less" as we march into the
21st Century.

** Our book on this topic -- Losing Ground Bit-by-Bit: Low-Income Communities
In the Information Age - can be found at our website (www.nul.org). I am at
our national conference now in Philadelphia. You can see the whole thing live
from our website. Audio and video are available. We also digitize the
content for later viewing. This will be archived perpetually. Other content
like our mission video, and our recent Urban Technology Summit that was on C-
SPAN and broadcasts to 5,000 folk on the Internet, is also archived at our
site.

** New friends, I look forward to this dialogue. Moderator, is there a focus
topic, or are we to simply respond extemporaneously to comments that make us
go hmmmm?

Virtually,

B. Keith Fulton
